It's in the details

I love browsing the Nook Gallery - there is so much to be inspired from, both from the DT and the members.

I find studying the details useful. How do the designers layer their embellishments, how do they group them? Does inking the edges make a difference? How do they make their add depth to their projects?

Here is some close up photos of projects made by the DT with the January Kit.

Hey there everyone! Deanna here with the New Year Crop Challenge #8.
It's time yet at again for another crop challenge.
Hope you all are ready for this one, because it's called "10 things on a string".

As you all know banners or garlands, or whatever you want to call them, are extremely popular right now. In fact they may be a little overdone, but I still love them. I'm sure you do too. So for today's challenge I'm going to challenge you to to make a banner consisting of at least 10 shapes. That sounds easy enough, but here's the twist. The challenge is actually to make a banner full of DIFFERENT shapes, and not repeat any one shape more than 3 times.

Here's my example. "It's a Love Thing"

I included more than 10 pieces:

1. 3 half doilies
2. 1 "remember this" pennant
3. 1 small rose bud
4. 1 heart
5. 1 tea kettle
6. 1 "all smiles" pennant
7. 1 spoon
8. 1 "love to you" circle punch
9. 1 misted fabric flower (from the add-on section)

Now. This challenge is NOT limited to only layouts. If you'd like to make a card, an actual banner, or have something else in mind, then go for it! All types of projects are welcome!

The deadline is next Sunday, Feb. 4th at 12pm NOON PST. I will randomly draw a winner who will win a package full of ribbon, flowers, and bling!!!

I can't wait to see what you all make!

Crop Challenge #7

Good Morning girls!! It's Pam here today, and I hope you all are having a blast so far with all of these fun challenges:) I have one for you today that has to do with one of my very favorite things...color!

I am most often inspired by color as a starting point for my projects, so I have compiled a list of my top 10 ways to use color:

1. Pull a color(s) from your photo and be influenced by that in choosing what papers/embellishments you use on your layout.
2. Have a story to tell, but the papers you want to use don't match? No problem...turn your photos black and white or sepia and they will match instantly!
3. Go monochromatic. Choose one color and use it in various shades of that color.
4. Be complimentary. Complimentary colors are any 2 colors that are opposite from each other on the color wheel. For example, blue and orange:
5. If you can't decide on 2, throw another one in there and do triadic colors. That would be any 3 colors on the color wheel that make a triangle. For example: red/yellow/blue or orange/green/purple.
6. Use analogous colors, which are colors that sit next to each other on the color wheel.
7. Be trendy. Every year, Pantone sets a new color for color of the year. The color for 2012 is tangerine tango:
Make this color be the dominating color in your project.
8. Pair a color with a neutral, such as black or white, to make it pop. Here I paired pink against black:
9. ROY G BIV it. Use all of the colors and make a rainbow:)
10. Use a color combination that is preset for you. There are tons of gorgeous combinations floating around on pinterest, or you can find some HERE as well. For this challenge, I have created this combination for you:
This is the card I made using these colors:
soooooo, are you ready for the challenge?!

I challenge you to create 2 projects (can be layouts, cards, tags, altered items-the 2 can be the same type of project or any combination) using 2 of the ways to use color that are listed above (one different one for each project).

All of your projects need to be linked in the challenge thread on the forum by Saturday, February 4th, 12 noon PST.

I will be giving away a December kit to one lucky winner:)

Friday Fave for Jan. 27th

This week's Friday Fave comes to us from Wendy Antenucci.

When I saw this one in the gallery it just jumped right out at me.
I can't say how much I LOOVE the way Wendy clusters the flowers
around her photo strips, and then journaled to fill in the rest of the heart.
And then the "love" touch on the edge is just perfect!

Fantastic LO Wendy! Congrats on being this week's Friday Fave!

CARDS Pinspo Challenge: To Bake, To Bathe or Both?

Hello, Nookers!
Shellye here with your Wednesday CARDS Challenge.
I enjoy perusing Pinterest...maybe a little too much!
We like to use PINSPO Challenges here at the Nook...what is a Pinspo challenge?  Simply using some of our favorite photos (found at Pinterest) and using them as inspiration in creating cards, layouts, etc.  You may see patterns, a certain color scheme or an actual image.
I ran across a couple of photos that I thought would go well with the January Nook Kit.
